5 Mile Hike

It was a warm, sunny day and we took advantage of it by going on a little hike in a canyon preserve close to our house. Mike has a cool little GPS watch that calculates our time and distance, check out our stats at this link.

We came across some cute ducklings...
And the protector of the ducklings. He came out of the water and just stood there as if to make sure we didn't get too close. Some cool vegetation...And a juvenile rattlesnake...I was a little nervous to walk around him, but finally did so after 2 other people came by and walked passed him like it was no big deal.

Padres Home Opener

We went to the Padres Home Opener a couple of weeks ago against the Dodgers. We lost, but it was a great day for baseball.
We are sporting our free opening day caps.

Fun in San Francisco

San Francisco is one of our favorite cities to visit. We stayed with some friends and had some good food and lots of fun.
We got our chocolate fix at Ghirardelli. We visited Chinatown.
Mike and Alex.
We went tea tasting, which we'd never done before. You go in and sit at the counter and they pour you several teas to taste and tell you what they are good for, like digestion or relaxation. Our lady kept telling us the tea wasn't for "yummy yummy" but for health benefits. We ended up buying some for their taste. However, I don't remember what the benefits are for "Blue People" and "Siberian Rose".

Lots of different kinds of tea.
The tea leaves. The Siberian Rose is in the middle.

Riding on the Muni with Alex and Melissa.
We also visited the California Academy of Science. It was a cool museum with a rainforest, aquarium, living reef, living roof, and a planetarium.

"The Academy's green rooftop will keep the building's interior an average of 10 degrees cooler than a standard roof would. The plants also transform carbon dioxide into oxygen, capture rainwater, and reduce energy needs for heating and cooling."

Pictures taken from under the aquarium.

House Guest

There's not been a whole lot to blog about lately.

Mike's mom was out here for her Spring Break in March. We tried to go whale watching, but the trip was sold out when we got downtown. They did, however, get to see the whale that has been in our harbor since the beginning of March. It sounds like he (Diego) is still hanging around: news story link.

We are off to San Francisco, one of my favorite cities, this weekend to visit some friends. Hopefully, we'll have some fun pictures to post when we return.

In the meantime, we had a visitor today. Imagine carrying towels to put away and seeing this little guy in the middle of the kitchen floor. Let's just say I got a little startled! It took me about 20 minutes to chase him out the front door with the broom. He kept hiding under the door and playing dead! That's now been 2 animals that I've had to chase out of the house while Mike has been at work! Anybody remember the bird that got into the house? We had to put a screen up to keep birds out, because we kept getting hummingbirds in the house.

See ya later little guy!
