Wild Animal Park

We decided to go to The Wild Animal Park today to get out and enjoy the weather. It was 92 when we got to the park. It's always 10+ degrees hotter there than where we live. We go here and to the Zoo quite a bit. We took our new camera to snap some fun pictures of the animals. Here are some of our favorites.

Pictures from White Water Rafting

Well, they didn't turn out all that great and there are only 3 of our raft, but check out the pictures using the link below. We are in IMG_216, 217, and 218. If you look at all the other ones, you can see how some people ended up IN the river!

White Water Rafting

So, Mike says to me the other day that I should post on the blog about our white water rafting trip and how Colleen was in town. I guess since I can't get him to post...here goes...

This is not us, but one of the rapids on the river

We went white water rafting on the Kaweah river last Saturday. The river is located right outside Sequoia National Park and about an hour northeast of Bakersfield. We drove up there Friday afternoon and hit LA rush hour traffic head on! It's no wonder we don't do things closer to home more often, because we try to avoid LA as much as possible. We wanted to get to our hotel at a decent time and be able to get a good night's sleep before our trip, so we didn't have much of a choice. We got so annoyed with the traffic that we just stopped and had dinner to let some of the traffic pass by. It helped a little.

The rafting trip was so much fun. It was a Class 4+ trip, I was a little nervous at first. We'd been before with the same company on a different river in the area. Our guide was from Switzerland and was just visiting, but they needed an extra guide. He had never been down the river before, which he told us in the beginning, but we thought he was making a joke. Turns out, he's a great guide and we were one of the few rafts that did not flip over on the trip. At one point though, our raft was completely submerged in the water after going down a rapid. We somehow all fell into the middle and the raft popped right back up and out of the water. There was also only 4 of us plus our guide in the raft, so that may have helped. All the other rafts had 8 or more people. We haven't seen pictures yet from our trip, I'm waiting for the company to post them. I'll post them on here if they turn out.

After our trip, we drove straight home. We wanted to get home and a friend, Colleen, was going to be in town. She ran the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon and finished around 4:15. She stayed with us Sunday night.

We don't have much planned for the next couple of months, we just plan to lay low, entertain visitors, and do things around here. However, we will be flying to Chicago for the 4th of July to visit my dad and then KC for a wedding in August.
