Fun at the Fair!

The San Diego county fair comes to town in June.  I usually curse the fair every year, because of traffic.  But this year, Rylee and I braved the traffic and crowds and went to the fair 5 times!  We had a great time visiting the animals and eating cinnamon rolls.  Maybe next year, we will go on some rides.

Torrey Pines Hiking

Rylee has been getting her fair share of hiking in at Torrey Pines.  On this last hike, we walked a little over 3 miles and she didn't fuss one bit.  She just put her head down and fell asleep while in the Bjorn.

Museum Adventure

Here are a few cool things I've seen so far on my museum adventure...

At the Oceanside Museum of Art, I came across photographer Carolyn Guild.  I love her photos.

We boarded a bunch of historic vessels at the Maritime Museum.

Today, I wandered around the San Diego Botanic Garden and saw some cool bamboo among other plants.

This bamboo was making a creaking sound while I was standing under it.

My favorite part of the garden was the bamboo section.

San Diego Museum Month

So, it's museum month in San Diego county and I'm going to try and go to as many as I can....for fun....why not?  I hope to be enlightened and learn something interesting.

My first museum visit was today at the Museum of Making Music.  They had a lot of cool old instruments on display and you could listen to samples of music from different eras.  I can't imagine the sound distortion if that place is ever really crowded, because the music is kinda loud.  At the end they have a room where you could learn to play and actually try playing different instruments. I plucked a few strings...it was cool.  I have learned that they have several cool concerts here, so I will be hopefully back to check those out sometime.

We'll see if I actually keep up with this adventure.

La Jolla Sea Lions

I had some friends in town and took them to walk the La Jolla shore from Children's Pool to the Cove.  It was a gorgeous day for it.  We saw plenty of seals and sea lions along the way and they were all enjoying the warm sun.

Tonight's Sunset

One of the best parts of living in San Diego are the amazing sunsets.

4th of July

What did we do for the 4th this year?  We went kayaking in Mission Bay and watched a firework show that went off from barges in the bay.  It was pretty cool, we may try to do this every year.

Springtime in San Diego and Birthdays

Mike's Mom was out here on her annual Spring Break trip. Today is Mike's birthday, yesterday was his Mom's birthday.  We spent the weekend eating, watching March MADNESS!, checking out the wildflowers and the ocean and looking for whales.

Watching the KU game at Boardwalk.  Mike's friend, Skip was visiting from Colorado.

Kathy blowing out her candle.

Mike's turn.

Hiking at Torrey Pines to see the wildflowers.  Normally it's dry and brown, so we like it when it's colorful with flowers.

Looking for whales at Cabrillo in Pt. Loma.

Yun Zi, Baby Panda

What can I say, I love animals and I love pandas.  Anytime there is a baby at the Zoo or Wild Animal Park, I am all over trying to get there to see it.  I went to the zoo today to see the newest panda, Yun Zi, that was born in August.  He came out for display earlier this month.  I posted about him a while back and how I watched him online.  He's so cute!

The Nutcracker and Carols By Candlelight

We had a nice Christmas-y weekend.  We took Mike's grandmother to see the Nutcracker.  We always like to take her to a Christmas program every year.

We also went to Carols By Candlelight.  It's a concert that has been held every year for the past 20 years and the event raises money for local children's charities.  We bought our tickets through a local radio station, so we got meet and greet passes also.  We got autographs from all the performers and a couple of photos.

After the show, everyone gets a candle and goes outside to sing Silent Night.  This was the first year it rained the night of the show, but everyone still stood outside under umbrellas singing Silent Night.

Bucky Covington

Autographs from Leann Rimes, Bucky Covington, Little River Band, Buck Howdy, and Jordan Pruitt.
I have no idea which signature belongs to everyone.  We weren't really interested in autographs, just a couple of photos, but didn't want to be the only ones going down the line not getting autographs.

San Diego Zoo's Baby Panda

The San Diego Zoo has a new baby panda that was born in August. I love Pandas and I love going online to watch the little one. It's especially cute when the mom comes in to tend to the little guy. If you wanna see something that'll put a smile on your face, go check it out.

Just look how cute they are:
